Bringing It Home

So, it’s been over a month, but how about we wrap up the tale of my cross-country road trip moving from Seattle to Connecticut. Whadaya say?

If you can’t tell by Prince’s face, by our fourth and final day of our road trip everyone was a little tired of being in the car and was just eager to get to our final destination already!

The day started off with a hotel breakfast which was surprisingly yummy – banana oatmeal (with an added scoop of peanut butter) with a clementine on the side.

And a piece of toast topped off with scrambled eggs and ketchup (the best way to enjoy scrambled eggs in my opinion).

After loading up the car, we were back on the road with Mister E at the wheel and Kaylie at my shoulder. (Sidenote: out of everyone, Kaylie was probably the most restless of being in the car for so long and was actually freaking out and trying to get to my door in this picture. It sounds cute, but it was NOT fun!)

In what felt like no time at all, we were leaving Indiana behind and crossing into the great state of Ohio! I made sure to keep my eyes peeled for Mr. Schuester, but no cigar (that was a Glee reference for all of you peeps that aren’t cool enough to watch the show).

Sadly, I found Ohio to be pretty boring to look at from the highway and the only thing noteworthy that happened that’s worth mentioning or showing was that I got hungry and had a slice of pizza, which was leftover from yesterday’s dinner. And yes, it pretty much was as unappetizing as what it looks like in the picture.

Thankfully Mister E and I were able to keep ourselves entertained with conversation for must of the ride through Ohio and before long we finally made it into Pennsylvania.

After crossing the state line, I took over at the wheel and Mister E promptly fell asleep. I think he has a case of car hypnosis.

I found Pennsylvania to beautiful to drive through – lots of rolling green hills, a.k.a. mini-mountains. Unfortunately, my camera was sitting at Mister E’s feet and I didn’t have the heart to wake him to ask him to either take pictures for me or to at least hand the camera to me so that I could take pictures.

At some point, I pulled over a rest stop where I snacked on my last chocolate Vitatop.

Finally, towards the evening, Mister E awoke from his deep slumber just in time to exclaim that he was starving! Earlier in our trip, I had discovered that Mister E has never been to a Craker Barrel before, so being the last day of our trip and all, I suggested that we try to find one for dinner.

I’ve eaten at Craker Barrel several times before for breakfast, but not so much for lunch or dinner. After perusing their menu for a hefty amount of time – during which Mister E repeatedly reminded me of his hunger – I decided upon the chicken and dumplings since I had never-once-in-my-life-ever had tried dumplings before.

I’m not sure if I can say that I was a fan. It was certainly alright, and I’m glad that I can say that I tried dumplings now, I’m just not sure if I’ll be ordering them again anytime soon.

After studying the map a bit longer, I realized that we weren’t that far off from a famous little town that some of you might know…

That’s right! After a little bit of begging and pleading on my part, I convinced Mister E to make a quick pitstop in Scranton, Pennsylvania, home to the fictional Michael Scott of The Office. I was so psyched! With a little bit of research, I found that the town’s welcome sign was conveniently located in the mall where tourists could stop to take pictures. Apparently, too many tourists were pulling off the side of the road to take pictures with the sign in its original location that the city decided to locate it to a safer spot. Funny, huh?

After our short detour, we high tailed our butts back to the car to wrap up the final leg of our journey. Shortly after nightfall we made it into New York…

And before I knew it, I had made it to my new home! Connecticut!!

So I hope you guys will excuse the lateness of this post. I’ve officially been residing in Connecticut for almost a month and a half now (!) and have a bajazillion things to catch you all up on including the fact that I’ve been without internet which hopefully excuses my posting tardiness.

Check back soon to hear how my first few weeks in my new home have been going…. let’s just say that the old adage, “when it rains, it pours”, definitely proved to be true for me!

  1. Haha, I love that you got a pic with the scranton sign, and I’ve never had anything other than breakfast at cracker barrel either – i mean, they give you mini bottles of maple syrup, what is not to love about breakfast?

and I wonder if CT has a better looking sign somewhere, that one is pretty darn sad looking.

  2. I’m so glad you are blogging again.

I love the picture of you driving and sleeping Mr. E. That is exactly what a road trip around here looks like.. Car hypnosis may be more widespread than you think. Hope things are going well :)

  3. yay!!!! now you have to visit Boulder….where Michael Scott moved to!
