Strawberry Basil Sangria from Pinterest

It’s a running joke among my friends that my life is now controlled by Pinterest. From my holiday decorations to just my regular apartment decor, I draw a lot of inspiration from Pinterest.

I don’t see anything wrong with that since that’s the whole purpose of the site. It can get a little embarrassing however when I’m continually telling people that practically everything in my life – from my outfits to my food – comes from Pinterest. Where’s the originality?

Well, this sangria is no different although I wish I could tell you that I was the person to come up with it.

About a month ago, I saw a pin for strawberry basil sangria and could barely wait to bring another pin to life. With just a few simple ingredients – strawberries, basil, apples, sugar, white wine, white grape juice, and club soda – I had a light and delicious drink that was perfect for the upcoming summer season. I differed from the original recipe slightly by chopping my basil instead of scoring it and using Pinot Grigio instead of the recommended Chardonnay. My only criticism was that I could taste too much of the grape juice for my personal preference, so next time I would probably cut back on the juice, and add it to my taste preference.

A very happy drink, indeed.

Just wait until tomorrow when I show you what I paired the drink with for dinner!

10 Things to Look Forward to this Fall

Do you believe that it was 45 degrees this morning?!?! What the heck is going on here? I am officially supposed to have six more days of Summer. Who’s in charge here? I demand a refund!

Since there’s no denying now that Fall really is right around the corner, I figure now would be a good time to do a roundup of some of the top things I’m looking forward to this season.

1. Pumpkin Spiced Lattes

Undoubtedly the drink with the most buzz around it, Starbucks’ PSLs were already released in stores at the beginning of the month. I haven’t had one yet this year and plan on holding out until the first day of Fall to eat/drink/smell anything pumpkin.

2. Boots

Out of everything on this list, I think boots are what I’m most excited for. But here’s my thing – I don’t want to spend over $100 on a pair! I pretty much lived in my black motorcycle boots from Target last Fall and Winter – all to the pretty tune of fifty bucks. This Fall, I’m looking forward to branching out into different colored boots like cognac and gray – all for a low price, of course. I’ll keep you updated on whatever deals I find.

3. Hats and Scarves

Well, it’s a pretty much a fact that boots, hats, and scarves are all BFFs in the Fall fashion world. When I was moving from Florida to Seattle, I owned approximately sixteen bathing suites and two scarves. Three years later, I was the proud owner of approximately two bathing suites and thirty scarves. Funny what living in the cold will do to you.

4. Leaves

New England is supposed to have the best show in town for changing colors in the Fall and I am so excited to have a front row seat this year!

5. Comfort Foods

I already have big plans of adding this stuff into oatmeal this Fall. But I’ve been going a little crazy with pinning recipes on Pinterest that I can’t wait to give a try like this and this. Oh, and chili. Lots of chili this season.

6. Fall Decorations

I’ve never really decorated for Fall, but once again, Pinterest is the cause behind me getting Halloween-decor fevor around here. I forsee lots of pumpkins and glitter in my future!

7. TV Shows

I’ll be honest, I thought this summer sucked for TV shows. With the exception of The Glee Project and Jamie Oliver’s Food Nation, nothing really captured my attention. I’m looking forward to getting back into some old favorites like  Modern Family and 30 Rock as well as checking out some newbies like Up All Night and 2 Broke Girls.

8. Black Friday Shopping

For those following along last year, I made out like a bandit on Black Friday – most notoriously in Gap. I’m looking forward to another great shopping season this year – bring on the sales!

9. Apples

I’m excited to try my hand at some apple desserts this year like apple ringsapple donut holes, and apple spice cake. I’m also keeping my fingers crossed that I will get to go apple picking this season!

10. Thanksgiving

I’m not positive yet what my Thanksgiving Day plans are yet, but with so many family members and friends nearby, one thing’s for sure – I won’t be spending it alone this year.

What are you looking forward to this season? Any new TV shows that you think I’m missing out on?
